Dimentichiamo per un momento le implicazioni etiche e morali, e riflettiamo solo sulle azioni: il Freddo e il Libanese non sono stati costretti da niente e da nessuno, ma hanno scelto liberamente la propria strada, e questa strada è la via della violenza. Si sono mostrati coerenti con le proprie decisioni e con i propri valori, non li hanno mai rinnegati, ed hanno maturato la consapevolezza delle proprie azioni accettandone le conseguenze: la distruzione è quindi inevitabile, perché la violenza travolge sia chi ne è vittima, sia chi la diffonde. Ma la loro grandezza rimane, anche quando esalano l’ultimo respiro.L’abilità degli sceneggiatori sta proprio in questo: la vicenda profuma di epico e di tragico, cattura, coinvolge e si chiude come un cerchio dove tutto è cominciato, molti anni prima. Alla regia c’è invece un Michele Placido che sembra dedicarsi come al solito più alla recitazione degli attori (tutti bravissimi) che ad altro, ma mostra allo stesso tempo di saper governare senza problemi una produzione di dimensioni notevoli. E, nel nostro cinema, non è poco.
